Flag Foundation in Delhi India

Flag Foundation of India

After the approval of supreme court of india on 23rd January 2014 for a new fundamental right that would allow every Indian to hoist the national flag on all days of the year, The Flag Foundation of India was established by Naveen Jindal and his wife Ms. Shallu Jindal. The Foundation launched a travelling art exhibition, Tiranga – Rights & Responsibilities, which exhibited at the India Habitat Centre (New Delhi), Jaipur Virasat Festival (Jaipur) and Jehangir Art Gallery (Mumbai) and other parts of the country.

The largest national flag in the country was hoisted on Friday inside the Central Park in Connaught Place in New Delhi. The tricolour, which is 90 feet wide and 60 feet long, flew atop a 207 feet tall flag pole. There are 12 such flag poles in the country but this national flag will be the largest , said K.V. Singh of the Flag Foundation of India. The Flag Foundation of India and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) worked together on the project. The flag pole has been designed keeping in mind the geometry of Connaught Place. A monument for the national flag is also being planned in the capital of the country.

“A flag is a necessity of all nations. Millions have died for it. It is no doubt a kind of idolatry, which it would be a sin to destroy. For a flag represents as ideal. The unfurling of the Union jack in the English breast evokes sentiments whose strength it is difficult to measure. The Stars and Stripes mean a world to the Americans. The Star and the Crescent will call forth the best bravery of Islam. Muslims, Christians, Jews, Parsis and all others to whom India is their home to recognize a common flag to live and die for.”
Mahatma Gandhi
